These hand painted porcelain saucers or coasters are faithful reproductions of originals once found in 19th century French bar life. Sometimes referred to as French tip trays, these saucers served a dual purpose as both a coaster and as a way to indicate the price of the drinks being served.
The coloured rim was used to indicate to the waiter the amount to be charged to the customer by reading the different colours of the saucers when stacked.
We used them around the house as coasters, jewerly trinket dish, candle holders or served along snacks; quite frankly any excuse is good enough to bring them out and enjoy a bit of French bar life at home.
Made of high-quality white porcelain and hand-painted.
